The World Heritage cross-cutting theme at the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014 in Sydney set a ten-year agenda for World Heritage sites to deliver conservation success. The World Heritage List includes the world’s most outstanding protected areas in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and natural feature and covers more than 10% of the global protected area estate. They are the litmus test for measuring success of the global protected area movement. At the same time, these sites have the potential to be the learning laboratories and a source of inspiration for the global protected area network.
