PANORAMA - Solutions for a Healthy Planet

With support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), PANORAMA was established at the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014, as a web platform for sharing and exchanging inspiring protected area solutions. The initial portfolio of case studies, sourced from the many organizations and individuals involved in the Congress, has been expanded continuously.

Since the Congress, PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet has evolved into a broad partnership initiative to find and promote examples of inspiring, replicable solutions across several themes beyond the initial focus on “protected areas”, enabling cross-sectoral learning and inspiration for broader impact. PANORAMA is now a partnership between GIZ, IUCN, UN Environment, GRID-Arendal and Rare, with IUCN and GIZ in a leading and coordinating role.  Financial support is provided by BMUB and UNDP-GEF.

The new, current version of the PANORAMA platform was launched at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawai'i in 2016.

In its role as thematic community coordinator for PANORAMA’s “protected area solutions” component, the IUCN Global Protected Areas Programme continues to promote the role of protected areas in addressing global challenges, as well as specific examples of innovation in protected area management and governance. Beyond the web platform, solutions are being promoted through publications, on social media and other communication channels. Exchange between solution providers and –seekers is facilitated through webinars and workshops.
