Meet the Field Trip Leaders, Linda Claydon and David Tribe
Which field trip are you leading?
Roaming Around Ku-ring-gai National Park
How did you come to be involved with Protected Areas?
By having a strong belief in the importance of preserving Protected Areas.
As volunteers in the Ku-ring-gai National Park we have the opportunity to enlighten the public to the value of such a beautiful place.
Why are you passionate about Protected Areas?
Being able to engage people and enlighten them to the beauty that surrounds them.
Reinforcing the value of Protected Areas for their well being is a wonderful thing.
Being able to offer people with unique experiences linking healthy ecosystems to healthy people.
Why should delegates choose your field trip?
The delegates have an outstanding opportunity to experience an Australian Protected Area first hand and the chance to embrace the unique Cultural Heritage and Biodiversity.
We have an innovative partnership between NSW National Parks and Chase Alive Volunteer Discovery Program which gives delegates a model to see in action.
The delegates will be shown how a sound volunteer program adds a depth of knowledge and support within our own Protected Area. This may be a program
that delegates may wish to implement and provides a platform for learning new skills and ideas about implementing sound practices.
Why did you want to be a Field Trip Leader for the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014?
To have the opportunity to showcase our local Protected Area, to share our knowledge and offer a unique experience that the delegates will never forget.
Being able to bring delegates from all corners of the world to our Protected Area, to interact with them, share experiences and build new friendships.
What do you hope the IUCN World Parks Congress achieves?
We see the value of the knowledge, wisdom and expertise of the visiting delegates to be the lasting footprint and gift to all those who will be involved.
That the delegates gain a sound understanding, full knowledge and experience of the work carried out in Australian Protected Areas.
What’s been your most memorable experience within a Protected Area?
To sit still, to open my ears, my eyes and my sense of smell and to reflect, as the sun rises or sun sets, upon the values of our Protected Areas for the well being of people.
We all are dependent upon Protected Areas to live on Planet Earth.
