Host a Parallel Event
With so many protected area professionals and industry stakeholders gathering in Sydney in November for the World Parks Congress, you may wish to use this opportunity to organise a meeting or event before or after the Congress to advance, network or promote your work. These are called parallel events.
If your event is tied in some way to the Congress purpose, streams and/or themes let us know – it may be eligible for listing via the World Parks Congress website and we may be able to help you find a suitable venue.
What is a parallel event?
A parallel event is an event organised independently outside the Congress venue, but linked to the purpose of the Congress, which takes advantage of the delegates present at the Congress.
When do parallel events take place?
Parallel events may take place before or after the Congress dates or within the Congress dates, or outside of the business hours during the course of the Congress as outlined below:

How can I get help with organising my parallel event?
As a parallel event host, it is your responsibility to organise the logistics of the event yourself. However assistance is available with finding a suitable venue, accommodation and other event services in Sydney, outside the scope of the World Parks Congress by contacting AccessNSW, a complimentary service offered by Business Events Sydney.
Business Events Sydney (BESydney) is the organisation responsible for promoting Sydney as a business events destination, and bringing these events to Sydney. BESydney is a not-for-profit partnership between the New South Wales Government and the private sector, including more than 200 leading tourism attractions, venues, event suppliers and conference organisers.

Can I promote my parallel event on the World Parks Congress website?
Your parallel event may be promoted on the World Parks Congress website if you nominate to have it listed, and if it meets the following criteria:
- Has a strong link to the Congress purpose, streams and or themes;
- Enhances the outcomes of the Congress;
- Benefits or is of interest to the Congress delegates;
- The event takes place up to one month before or after the Congress and outside the core Congress business hours, see the table above*.
Please note that, the World Parks Congress Management Committee reserves the right to accept or reject the listing of parallel events on the Congress website. If your parallel event is listed you may use the World Parks Congress logos on any promotional materials you may produce for the event.
*World Park Congress will not list a parallel event on the website that is not linked to the Congress purpose, streams or themes; nor will it promote events that will detract from on-site activities during the Congress dates (12-19 November 2014)
Who do I contact to nominate my parallel event for inclusion on the WPC website?
If you would like to advertise your event on the World Parks Congress website, you will need to notify the World Parks Congress secretariat of the following details:
- The title of the event
- A short description of the event content (including the nature of the event, for example, a meeting, a lecture or a function).
- The date, time and location of your event.
- Contact details, including name, title, position/organisation, email and phone numbers.
- A short statement outlining the events linkage to the Congress purpose, streams and or themes (and any additional supporting information such as website links)
- Optional: quality images, artwork or logo’s in JPEG and EPS format.
Please submit the required information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The website will be regularly updated with the details of approved parallel events. However, please take into account that it may take a few weeks to approve and load your event details.
Are there important deadlines I need to be aware of?
To ensure that your event promotion is uploaded to the website in sufficient time, please submit your event details as soon as possible, and no later than 31 October 2014, to email@example.com.
