We welcome you to visit Sydney Park, an outstanding urban park located in St Peters on the southern fringes of the city. The former brickworks site has been transformed into one of the city’s premier parks providing natural and planned spaces for diverse family based activities - a perfect place for children to begin their relationship with parks and nature.

City of Sydney has planned a unique experience of Sydney Park for you through digital activities. You will explore the role of social media and digital technology in encouraging teenagers and young adults to visit, recreate in and support parks. A recent survey by Pew’s Research Centre found 72 % of teenagers and 73 % of young adults use social media but that their patterns of use can change rapidly. As managers are we ready to successfully use and respond to the uptake of social media?

During your excursion to beautiful Sydney Park you will participate in an activity like geo caching, using digital technology to explore, have fun and test your wits. You will discover Sydney Park’s 40 hectares of lush grass, landscaped gardens, rolling hills, meandering pathways and picturesque wetlands all less than 6 km from the CBD. Come and enjoy watching the many different types of birds forage in the creeks that flow that throughout the park and experience the joy that local children have while they spend hours playing at the tactile, one-of-a-kind playground that stimulates the senses of touch, hearing and sight.

The City of Sydney will host you for lunch at Sydney Park Pavilion and you will have the chance to talk with young professionals, community leaders, staff and decision makers about engaging young people in parks and protected areas. Following lunch you will learn more about how City of Sydney and other Australian park agencies actively use social media and digital technology to promote their parks and engage the community.

We encourage you to join us to share your experiences or discover how social media and digital technology are already being used and identify new trends to inspire future generations to engage with and visit parks. Return transport is to Sydney Olympic Park where you can enjoy the afternoon entertainment at PlanetFest.
