What is PlanetFest?

To celebrate the IUCN World Parks Congress, we have created PlanetFest!

PlanetFest is an interactive, inspiring and fun filled event designed to engage and promote the conservation of parks and worldwide protected areas to the community. PlanetFest will also be an opportunity to highlight the important role that the IUCN World Parks Congress plays in protecting our parks and the vital role our parks play in contributing to our health and community well-being. This festival will be a place where Congress delegates and the broader community can connect, interact, and celebrate the importance of our parks together. PlanetFest will also be an opportunity to help share with the public the discussion topics and inspiring initiatives that are developed during the IUCN World Parks Congress sessions.

PlanetFest will have an action packed program with entertainment and activities for young and old to engage and inspire through education and interaction. It will include a health, sports and marine area, green workshops, traditional aboriginal artisans at work, kids interactive games, innovative environmental business, nature and wildlife conservation stalls, arts and crafts displaying some of Sydney’s finest artisans at work, a live concert performance showcasing some of our finest Australian talent, followed by the screening of an environmental film, narrated by Cate Blanchett.

There is something for all ages at PlanetFest.

  • Discovery Bush Rangers – come and meet the rangers from around the world who look after our National Parks.
  • Bio Blitz – become a Citizen Scientist for the day, recording wildlife at Sydney’s largest Bio Blitz.
  • Taronga Zoo Mobile & Featherdale Wildlife Park – encounter some of Australia’s best loved wildlife
  • Beach Teach – education on waterways, including a marine touch tank

  • Bike and Blend – make your own pedal powered smoothie
  • Rock climbing wall
  • And much, much more

The Red Zone: Food Stalls

Multicultural and indigenous food stalls. Food trucks and stall holders will serve a variety of food options for our event guests including vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options. Our stall-holders are encouraged to serve food in minimal and sustainable packaging.

The Blue Zone: Health, Sports & Marine

Stalls that showcase mainly health and sport activities such as yoga, mindfulness and life coaching as well as the latest health and well-being food, supplements and products. Within this area this is also a focus on marine education and products as well as initiatives that support our local marine life and waterways.

The Green Zone: Parks, Conservation, Community & Business

This area will focus on parks and park education. Products and services that promote or educate the well-being of our parks and native wildlife are key for this zone. NPWS will feature a range of their programs including WilderQuest and Discovery Rangers.

The Yellow Zone: Art & Craft Stalls

This area will showcase Australian made and Indigenous arts, craft and education. Stallholders will feature hand-crafted, high quality artefacts, basket weaving, paintings etc.

The White Zone: Main Stage

The festival stage will feature some of Australia’s best talent. Nicky Bomba is one on Australia’s most respected musicians and an Ambassador of the Thin Green Line Foundation. Nicky will bring his tropical shaking six-piece, Bustamento to PlanetFest, to pay homage to the upbeat rhythms of the Caribbean, covering the Calypso, Mento, Early Reggae and Ska styles. Nicky and the band will command the crowd to dance like they’ve never danced before.

PlanetFest, a day celebrating our environment.
