Professor Guillermo E. Zúñiga Chaves

Guillermo E. Zúñiga Chaves is a Professor at the National University of Costa Rica and is the national team leader for UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) in Costa Rica. From 2006 to 2009 he served as Costa Rica’s Finance Minister, during which time he was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank, and Chairman of the Budgetary Authority. He also served as Costa Rica’s Governor for the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. He was President of the Board of Governors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and Alternate Governor of Costa Rica to the International Monetary Fund. In February 2010, he was elected Deputy to the Legislative Assembly for the 2010 to 2014 period by the Partido Liberación Nacional. From 2011 to 2013 he was General Manager of Banco Credito Agricola de Cartago. Mr Zúñiga Chaves holds a degree in Economics from the University of Costa Rica, and a Master’s degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
