Dr Bill Jackson
Chief Executive, Parks Victoria
Dr Bill Jackson is the Chief Executive of Parks Victoria and Director of National Parks for the State of Victoria, Australia. Parks Victoria is responsible for managing national parks, sanctuaries, urban parks and wilderness areas covering more than 4.2 million hectares, as well as marine national parks and around 70 per cent of Victoria’s coastline.
With a background in forestry and conservation, Dr Jackson has both practical and management experience in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
His lifetime of experience in the field and passion for the importance of contact with nature for human health and health of our environment make him a vital advocate for the Healthy Parks, Healthy People approach.
Prior to his appointment to Parks Victoria, Dr Jackson was Deputy Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Over a period of 13 years, Dr Jackson held various positions in the IUCN including Director of the Global Programme and Head of Forest Conservation.
Before working with IUCN, Dr Jackson worked on community forestry in Nepal, where he assisted the Government’s Department of Forests to devise suitable and socially sustainable methods of managing community forests.
